TOKYO
Tokyo stocks opened marginally higher Thursday as investors sought out bargains following the market's run of closing lows over the past six days, incentivized by a halt in the yen's rise against the U.S. dollar.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 97.82 points, or 0.44 percent, from Wednesday to 22,126.14.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 2.83 points, or 0.16 percent, to 1,746.84.
Information and communication, air transportation and real estate-linked issues comprised those that gained the most in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
