Monkey Addicted To Petrol Won’t Stop Drinking Fuel From Motorbikes

A petrol-addicted monkey was caught red-handed drinking fuel from motorbikes.

The thirsty animal has been targeting parked bikes at the market in Panipat, in the northern Indian state of Haryana.

Locals started a vigilance after finding their fuel tanks empty, and were surprised to discover that the mischievous creature was the thief.

Gaurav Leekha, who runs a volunteer organisation in the city, said: ‘The monkey was clearly addicted to the petrol.

‘It would refuse to eat even bananas and nuts if anyone offered it.’

They usually live on a diet of fruit and vegetables, although they are known to scavenge around the cities in pursuit of whatever other food they can find.

The monkey was caught on camera by a mechanic, slurping petrol from a motorcycle.

Leekha said the monkey did not pose any danger to humans ‘as it was perhaps always high’.

Drinking petrol can cause burns, vomiting, diarrhoea and in large quantities even death.

There have been a number of recorded cases of people dying after drinking fuel.
