Viet Nam’s achievements over the past 30 years of reform came from creative application of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chí Minh Thought, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phú Trọng stressed, describing such attainments as evidence of the vitality of socialism in the country.

The Party leader made the remarks in a ceremony on Sunday in Ha Noi to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Russian October Revolution on November 7.

Attending the event were former Party General Secretary Nông Đức Mạnh, President Trần Đại Quang, former President Trương Tấn Sang, Prime Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyễn Thị Kim Ngân and former NA Chairman Nguyễn Sinh Hùng, and representatives of Việt Nam-Rusian Friendship Associations and the Russian Embassy in Hà Nội.

In his speech, Trọng said that “the significance of the revolution opened up a new period in humankind’s history.”

“All victories of the Vietnamese revolution have been linked with the impacts of Russia’s October Revolution as well as the wholehearted support and assistance of the people of the former Soviet Union,” he said.

“We need more efforts to build a strong and pure Party, along with improving growth quality, protecting national independence, sovereignty, unification and territorial integrity, expanding foreign relations, and looking after people’s material and spiritual lives,” Party chief Trọng said.

The Party leader expressed his belief that with the spirit of the Russia’s October Revolution and Việt Nam’s August Revolution, the people’s confidence in the Party and joint endeavours, Việt Nam would become a strong country with wealthy people, democracy and equality.

Also on Sunday, a high-ranking delegation of the CPV Central Committee, National Assembly, President, Government, Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee and Hà Nội authorities laid wreaths in tribute to Vladimir Ilyich Lenin at his statue in the capital.

The October Revolution of 1917 was one of the most explosive political events of the twentieth century. During the revolution, the Bolsheviks, led by Lenin, seized power and destroyed csarist rule.

The Bolsheviks later became the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. — VNS
