BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

An Indonesian woman was sentenced to 1 year and 1 month imprisonment by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrates Court for two offences under the Immigration Act.

For the first offence, 36-year old Ami Maryani entered the country without valid Immigration Pass. The defendant was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment and a fine of 800 dollars or 1 month imprisonment in default. For the second offence, Ami Maryani re-entered the country without any written permission from the Immigration officials after being deported, and was sentenced to another 1 year imprisonment. All of the sentences were carried out simultaneously for a period of 1 year, while the 1 month imprisonment in default for failing to pay the first fine will be carried out separately. Ami Maryani was detained by the Enforcement Officers of the Immigration and National Registration Department on the 25th of this month at a food court in Jalan Pemancha, Bandar Seri Begawan.
