KUALA LUMPUR
A man who identified himself as a "Datuk Seri" allegedly beat up three People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) members for not showing him respect.
The incident took place at a temple in Ampang where a celebration was held on Friday (Oct 27) morning.
A Rela team was there to help monitor traffic in the area when the three members told the Datuk Seri that his car was blocking a road near the temple.
MCA Public Service and Complaints Department chairman Datuk Seri Michael Chong, who is Rela's honorary deputy commissioner, said an altercation occurred after the Datuk Seri accused the Rela personnel of not showing him respect.
The injured are Ranbo Lee, 27, Jackie Leong, 21, and Melvin Cheong, 19.
Lee suffered bruises and swelling to his left eye in the attack. Leong was kicked in his body while Cheong was hit on the back of his head.
Chong said that incident was caught on CCTV and that a police report has been lodged.
"How can anyone do this, more so to people on duty? This is an insult to our uniform," Chong told a press conference which was attended by the three Rela members.
Ampang Jaya Deputy OCPD Supt Mohd Zaid Hassan confirmed that a report was made. No arrests have been made.
