261 graduates of Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB received degrees and diplomas at the 7th Convocation ceremony this morning.  His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, who is also the Chancellor of KUPU SB, conferred the degrees and diplomas during the ceremony at the International Convention Centre in Berakas.

Upon arrival at the ICC, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted by; Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs; as Chairman of the KUPU SB Council; Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti; Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs as Deputy Chairman of the KUPU SB Council; Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar, Chief Syari'e Judge, and Doctor Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar, the Acting Ra'es of KUPU SB.

The ceremony began with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah diled by the State Mufti. The reading of Al-Quran was presented by Awang Mohamad Zul-Hafiz bin Awang Tengah, Post Graduate Diploma graduate. The interpretation was read by Awang Muhammad Muinuddin bin Hj Mohd Zain, a Bachelor of Religious Teaching (Shari'ah) graduate.

The Acting Ra'es of KUPU SB in his welcoming speech among other things touched on the developments that have been achieved by the institution.  It focused on 8 competencies as the basic benchmark for learning achievement in producing graduates who possess the Islamic Malay Monarchy or MIB identity who are hoped to be role models of piety as aspired by His Majesty's government.

His Majesty then delivered the titah of conferment of degrees and diplomas to the graduates. Out of the 261 graduates who graduated with degrees and diplomas, 18 were awarded the Master's Degree in Religious Teaching, 38 received the Post Graduate Diploma in Religious Teaching, 103 obtained the Bachelor's Degree in Religious Teaching, and 102 others received the Higher Diploma in Religious Teaching. With the addition of the new graduates, KUPU SB has so far produced 1,422 graduates since its status was elevated and its name changed to the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College in 2007.  This in itself is a positive for the institution in its efforts to achieve the mission, vision and objective of its establishment.

KUPU SB was elevated to University College from a Religious Teachers College in conjunction with the new Hijrah Year of 1428.  With the upgrading, it was hoped the university college would become a prominent Religious Teachers institution that is the pride of the nation and fulfils the country's needs as well as always opens its door to foreign students.  As it developed, KUPU SB established the Fiqh Al-Usrah Research Centre by implementing its function and role in organising fora and road shows with the cooperation of district offices and International Fiqh Al-Usrah Seminars in collaboration with universities of friendly nations.

The mission of KUPU SB is to raise the status of religious teaching and produce educators of high self-esteem through the integration of training knowledge, research, services, intellectuality and technology based on Islamic principles as well as the Islamic Malay Monarchy, MIB concept and National Education Philosophy. To seek blessings for the ceremony, Doa selamat was read by the State Mufti.

The establishment of KUPU SB represents a unique Islamic landmark by elevating the study of religious teaching and increasing the wealth of Kitab Melayu Turath or early eras Malay religious books. With foundations in the integration of knowledge, training, research, services, technology and holistic self-identity as enshrined in the mission of its establishment, KUPU SB shines proudly and to one day be recognised as an international standard and well known higher learning institute that is the pride of the country.
