A repeat drug offender who was sentenced to jail applied to the High Court to reverse the Magistrate's Court sentence but his appeal was denied as there were no "extenuating circumstances" pertaining to the case.
Pengiran Metussin bin Pengiran Haji Seruddin was sentenced in the Magistrate's Court to three years and three months in jail for consuming meth following his conviction after a trial.
Pengiran Metussin asked Justice Dato Paduka Steven Chong to consider a non-custodial sentence on the ground that his wife and six children are dependent on him.
"I have sympathy for the appellant's family, they will suffer hardship with the appellant in prison, sadly, it is an inevitable consequence of the appellant's drug abuse," said Justice Dato Paduka Steven Chong.
Justice Dato Paduka Steven Chong also found no reason to consider lowering the sentence as it is "undoubtedly severe but it is not excessive".
