Participants of the 44th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japan Youth Programme, SSEAYP are urged to prepare themselves with knowledge pertaining to Brunei Darussalam and maintain the country's good image as they foster cooperation and friendly relations with other participants. Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports made the call yesterday afternoon during the National Flag Handover Ceremony to the participants of the 44th SSEAYP. Yang Berhormat Pehin also stressed that the participants should not be easily influenced with the lifestyles that are against the teachings of Islam during the programme.

 

According to Yang Berhormat Pehin, through such a programme, the participants can promote the country through concise information. Participants are also reminded that they are the small ambassadors of the country. Participants are to mind their actions, speech and others as it portrays the Bruneian personality, therefore should maintain their discipline and be active in the activities provided in the programme.

 

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports handed over the national flag to Awang Muhammad Ihsan Sabri bin Haji Abd Manap, the head of the contingent. Also present were Datin Paduka Doctor Hajah Norlila binti Dato Paduka Haji Abdul Jalil and Awang Haji Noor Jusmin bin Haji Abdul Samad, Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and Awang Haji Zafri bin Haji Mohamed, Acting Director of the Youth and Sports as Chairman of the event.

 

Earlier, His Excellency Motohiko Kato, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the country presented the flight tickets to the head of contingent. 29 youths will take part in the 52-day programme that will commence on the 23rd of this month with 330 others from 11 nations using the Nippon Maru ship. The ship will stop by several selected countries namely Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia before ending in Japan.
