His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam this afternoon was at the Royal Mausoleum for a Tahlil ceremony for His Majesty's late parents, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit. The tahlil ceremony was one of the events of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to the Throne.

His Majesty was greeted upon arrival by the Co-Chairmen of the Adat Istiadat Sectoral Committee, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pengiran Anak Haji Abdul Aziz bin Pengiran Jaya Negara Pengiran Haji Abu Bakar, Yang Di-Pertua of Adat Istiadat Negara, and Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doctor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs. Also greeting His Majesty were Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohd Roselan bin Haji Mohd Daud, Deputy minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.

Also in attendance were His Majesty's sons and brothers;

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince,

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik, 

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel.

- His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah,

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah,

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah,

Also present were other members of the royal family.

The ceremony began with a reading of Surah Al-Fatihah led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doktor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.

The reading of Tahlil, doa tahlil and doa selamat was led by the State Mufti.

His Majesty then poured the ayeng asah-asahan or scented water on the graves of the monarch's late parents. Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien passed away on the third of Muharram 1407 Hijrah corresponding to the 7th September 1986. Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit passed away on the 20th of Syawal 1399 Hijrah corresponding to the 13th of September 1979.

His Royal highness the Crown Prince also poured scented water on the graves of Al-Marhum and Al-Marhumah.

- His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel,

- His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah,

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, and

- His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah,

Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien was coroneted as the 28th Sultan of Brunei after his older brother, Al-Marhum Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Akhazul Khairi Waddin passed away in 1950. Al-Marhum was a monarch who was caring and far-sighted. In the history of his reign, Al-Marhum was renowned as the Architect of Modern Brunei for transforming Brunei into a developed country. Among the historical oral tradition during Al-Marhum's reign was the establishment of the Brunei Constitution, establishment of policies on education, religion, security, communications as well as welfare of the citizens and residents.

Also present were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, cabinet Ministers, and members of Councils, Deputy Ministers, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan, Pehin-Pehin Manteri, Manteri-Manteri Hulubalang, Permanent Secretaries and Deputy permanent Secretaries as well as senior government officers.
