Harry Kane: Spurs happy with a draw at Real Madrid 'every day of the week'

SPAIN

Harry Kane said Tottenham would take a point away to Real Madrid "every day of the week" after Spurs secured a 1-1 Champions League draw at the Bernabeu on Tuesday.

An own goal from Raphael Varane, under pressure from Kane, put Tottenham in front, but Cristiano Ronaldo's penalty levelled matters.

The result leaves Madrid and Tottenham level on seven points atop Group H, six points ahead of Borussia Dortmund and Apoel, who also shared a 1-1 draw on Tuesday.

And Kane told BT Sport: "We are happy. Of course they are going to have chances but we played well and made it tough for them. A point at Bernabeu, you would take that every day of the week.

"It shows how far we have come as a team and it puts us in a great position in the group. We play them again in a fortnight. It shows we can handle it at this level and that what it is all about."

Kane's late chance at a winner was pushed wide by Keylor Navas, and the striker said he believed he'd done enough to beat the goalkeeper.

"I thought I had done everything right," he said. "I opened the body, put it where I wanted it but somehow he finger-tipped it around the post.

"But that's football. Sometimes that goes for you. He's made a very good save and we're happy with a point in the end."

Boss Mauricio Pochettino believed the point could be the difference between making the round of 16 or missing out and expressed his joy with the competitive nature his players showed against the defending champions.

"This point we earned today means a lot. It may help us advance from the group stage," said Pochettino. "The result is not the most important thing.

"What makes me happy is the fact that we came here and competed against Real Madrid."

Fernando Llorente said that while a draw is nothing to be upset about, a victory was well within Tottenham's grasp.

"I am happy as this is a good point for us, at such a difficult ground like the Bernabeu against a great time like Real Madrid. We tried to play as well as we could," he told BeIN Sports. "The first half we found it a bit tough, but the second we created big chances, were close to taking home something more in the end."

"It is difficult for Madrid. They have some great players. Today Benzema had some chances too, and we had some luck in the first half. But in the second they suffered a bit more. We are leaving feel good, for sure.

"We were well organised at the back, they just caught us out with a few crosses pulled back where they had players free. But when we had the ball we tried to play with clarity. We had clear chances to have won the game.

"This is a war out on the pitch, and out there we get stuck in against each other, and we must be ready for the games coming up, we have a difficult calendar coming up."

Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris was also pleased with a point after a dazzling display of his own.

"It's a pleasure to share with my teammates," he said. "To play here in the Bernabeu was a fantastic feeling. I think we were better in the first half. Second half they pushed until the end but we had some good chances to score. "But listen, at this level it's a great feeling to get a good draw."
