SINGAPORE

In her first official overseas visit as the Republic’s head of state, President Halimah Yacob will be travelling to Bangkok, Thailand, next week to attend the royal cremation ceremony of the late Thai king Bhumibol Adulyadej.

The two-day visit will take place on Oct 26-27, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a media release on Tuesday (Oct 17).

President Halimah, 63, will be accompanied by her husband, Mr Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee, as well as officials from the MFA and the President’s Office.

In her absence, Council of Presidential Advisors chairman J Y Pillay will exercise the functions of the Office of the President.

President Halimah was sworn in as Singapore’s first female President on Sept 14.
