His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam tonight consented to officially open the Sungai Kebun Bridge and watch the Decorated Floats and Boats Procession and Fireworks Display in conjunction with the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's Accession to The Throne.  The Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge marks another historic achievement and is the latest national landmark in the development of infrastructure, especially in the field of communications.

Upon arrival, His Majesty and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri were greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Doktor Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, the Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, the Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja (Retired) Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohamad Yussof, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports and Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Doktor Awang Haji Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi, the Minister of Health as the Co-Chairmen of the Celebration and District/Mukim Events Sectoral Committee and the Inauguration and Commemoration Sectoral Committee and their wives. Also present were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah; His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi'atul 'adawiyyah; and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel. The events were also attended by His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah and Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Zariah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Muta-Wakkilah Hayatul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Hafizah Sururul Bolkiah; and Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah. Also present were Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Umi Kalthum Al-Islam; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Amal Nasibah as well as other members of the Royal Family.

The Minister of Home Affairs as the Co-Chairman of the Celebration and District/Mukim Events Sectoral Committee in the welcoming address among others said the ceremony is a historic occasion and will certainly become an oral tradition for generations to come under His Majesty's reign as well as a landmark of the Monarch's aspiration in efforts to modernise Bandar Seri Begawan in particular.

His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Her Majesty Duli Raja Isteri were then invited to officiate the opening of the Sungai Kebun Bridge. The bridge is now officially known as Raja Iseri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge. As a mark of the official opening, His Majesty then placed a small model of the bridge on the model of the main bridge.  The official opening of the bridge was further enlivened with a laser light display on the new bridge.

The Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Bridge is a project under the 10th National Development Plan.  Its construction began in June 2013.  It was completed this month.   With the construction of the bridge, the country's citizens and residents now have access to a shortcut that links the centre of Bandar Seri Begawan with Mukim Lumapas, Mukim Sungai Kebun and the surrounding areas.
