Laos, Vietnam Enhance Cooperation on Forest Inspection

(KPL) The Lao Forest Inspection Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and the Forest Administration Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam met here in Vientiane on Oct 10 to discuss cooperation on forestry protection.

 

At the bilateral meeting, the senior officials of the two departments reviewed the efforts made by relevant officials of the two countries to tackle illegal timber trade between the two countries over the past five years.

 

Mr Khamphouth Phandanouvong, Director General of the Forest Inspection Department highlighted the fruitful cooperation between the two Lao and Vietnamese departments as they have agreed to promote joint efforts to tackle illegal timber trade and promote cooperation between relevant authorities in provinces located along the common border of the two countries.

 

“As for the next five years (2018-2022), the two departments will increase exchange of information, knowhow, and strengthen our joint efforts to tackle illegal timber trade between the two countries,” said Mr Khamphouth.

 

The Lao side was led by the Director General of the Forest Inspection Department Khamphout phandanouvong and the Vietnamese side was headed by Deputy Director of the Vietnamese Administration of Forestry Nguyen Quoc Tri.
