The meeting between the state and federal governments over dilapidated schools is a political gimmick to fish for Dayak votes since the general election is just around the corner, said Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru (PBDSB).
The local Opposition party, in a statement issued by its president Cobbold John Lusoi, claimed that most of the dilapidated schools are in Dayak-majority areas, thus it questioned the timing of the scheduled meeting and the intensity of talks on rebuilding 260 schools now.
“Every Sarawakian thought that state government was supposed to be in the progress of dealing with dilapidated rural schools after the statement made by Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing (in late September). Now suddenly, the Chief Minister wants to talk to the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister on the long overdue matter instead?
“Former Chief Minister, the late Pehin Sri Tan Sri Adenan Satem, had even pursued the matter and sadly his wishes for rural schools did not prevail either.
“If federal government were to provide the funding to repair all the dilapidated schools, they would had done so by now.
“There seems to be different actions taken by different ministers with regards to resolving the matter.”
