The latest teaching methodologies need to be developed and adapted to be in line with the rapid boom in Information Technology. In the context of Arabic Language teaching at Higher Institutions, the extensive use of multimedia computer and the internet have the potential to facilitate the teaching and learning process to be more dynamic and effective. Linking with hypermedia enables students to obtain the desired information without the aid of teaching staff, creates a real learning situation as well as enables direct communication with native speakers through the internet. Therefore, the provision of a complete and adequate infrastructure, such as the establishment of language labs, is seen as something that needs to be made available in every institutions of higher education and policy studies. The matter was stated by the Minister of Religious Affairs while officiating the International Conference on Arabic Language and Islamic Studies, ICAIS 2017 yesterday.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman added that without neglecting the efficacy of traditional methods which emphasise on the concept of learning through teachers that involves shaping manners and assimilation of values, the combination of a comprehensive teaching and learning strategy with the use of ICT is considered as being able to help the learning process and the acquisition of knowledge. This also applies for student-centric learning, which according to the Minister of Religious Affairs, is an educational approach involving students playing an active role in every teaching and learning sessions.
During the conference, Professor Emiritus Dato Doctor Sayyed Muhammad Aqiel bin Ali Al-Mahdaly Al-Husainy, UNISSA Academic Advisor presented a premier paper titled "Peranan Universiti dalam Memajukan Pengajaran Bahasa Arab dan Pengajian Islam".
More than 60 working papers including 3 premier papers will be presented during the 2-day conference which ends tomorrow. ICAIS 2017 is a collaboration between Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, UNISSA, the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College, KUPU SB and the Islamic Universities League, IUL. Also present were Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, Deputy Minister of Education; the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to the country; the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Kuwait to the country; representative of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Saudi Arabia to the country; Rector of UNISSA, Acting Raes of KUPU SB and the Secretary General of IUL.
