5th ASEAN Plus Three Environment Ministers Meeting

Over the years, considerable progress has been made in the ASEAN and the Plus Three Partners cooperation that has gone from strength to strength in the field of environment. These, according to the Minister of Development, included the implementation of the ASEAN-China Strategy on Environment Cooperation; the ASEAN-Japan Environmental Cooperation; the implementation of ASEAN-ROK Environmental Cooperation; and the new Framework for the ASEAN-ROK Cooperation Fund 2017-2020. Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah highlighted the matter in his opening remarks during the '15th ASEAN Plus Three Environment Ministers Meeting', yesterday.
Yang Berhormat also said that with the ASEAN Plus Three Environment Ministers Meeting, it is able to steer a fruitful and productive outcome, particularly in advancing the environmental cooperation between ASEAN and Plus Three Partners. These cooperation, Yang Berhormat added, has enabled capacity building and implementation of flagship projects that covers a broad spectrum of environmental conservation and protection such as water and waste water, waste management, sustainable cities, biodiversity, and also environmental education.
The meeting was chaired by Minister of Development and the head of Delegation was Dato Seri Paduka Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, Deputy Minister of Development. The one-day meeting reviewed regional cooperation on a number of environmental issues and discussed new initiatives to further promote regional environmental cooperation. The EMM+3 is held annually aimed at promoting environmental cooperation among the ASEAN+3 countries. Among those attending the meeting were His Excellency Huang Runqiu, Vice Minister of Environment Protection of China; His Excellency Ito Tadahiko, State Minister of Environment of Japan; and His Excellency Suh Min Hwan, Director General Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Korea.
