Launch of ASEAN Environment Day

The country will continue to place the utmost importance to promote a secure and sustainable environment as well as raise environmental awareness at all levels of society. The matter was voiced by the Permanent Secretary for Administration and Finance at the Ministry of Development during the launch of the ASEAN Environment Day, last night. Awang Haji Muhammad Lutfi Bin Abdullah also highlighted that the good times and close partnership between ASEAN Member States through international cooperation is needed in addressing environmental challenges in the region and in raising awareness on environmental issues.

 

Present at the ceremony were Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, Minister of Development and his Deputy, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar. At the ceremony, the Minister of Development and Ministers responsible for the environment from ASEAN Member States launched the ASEAN Environment Day and the Fifth ASEAN State of Environment Report. The ASEAN Environment Day is designed to celebrate and highlight ASEAN's environmental achievements and commitment to environmental protection. The Minister of Development also presented the 3rd Certificate of Recognition 2017 for small cities and big cities recipients in the category of Clean Air, Clean Water and Clean Land within ASEAN Member States. The 4th ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable Cities, ESC Award was also presented to all the ten ASEAN Member States. The award is a good platform not only to promote Environmentally Sustainable Cities but also to initiate and encourage the partnership and participation of various agencies including the community for the improvement of their city towards sustainability.
