In a bid to transform Brunei Darussalam from a nation that relies heavily on revenues generated from the petroleum sector, relevant agencies both government and private have put forward various initiatives to assist local Malay entrepreneurs in achieving sustainability. Therefore, it is imperative that Bruneians are able to change their mindset from looking solely at the public sector for employment to achieving vision 2035 through business and entrepreneurship.

In his welcoming address during the Certificate Presentation Ceremony held at the Mangrove Paradise Resort, President of the Federation of Brunei Malay Entrepreneurs (PPPMB), Dr. Hj Abdul Latif Chuchu has made it clear that Muslims should have a bulk of their income generated from business and entrepreneurship as this is highly encouraged in Islam. "I have a firm belief that this is what we as Muslims should do - partaking in healthy business activities that not only can render ourselves sustainable, but positively transforming our country's economy as whole" said Dr. Hj Abdul Latif.

To achieve such goals, the President of PPPMB has put a greater emphasis on a change in mindset through learning and education. The Federation has played its part in promoting business learning activities by sending several of its members for training and higher education opportunities to China such as the 2015 Seminar for Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Developing Countries in September 29.

As of April this year, PPPMB has sent three of its members to attend a seminar on 'Economic and Trade Relations of ASEAN Countries’; with four more schedule to leave for China to attend similar programmes. During late December last year, Dr. Hj Abdul Latif himself has delivered a working paper in China at a business meeting that focused on 'Enhancing Economic Bilateral Relation Between Indonesia-Brunei Darussalam Toward ASEAN Economic Community'

Further highlighting PPPMB's activity, the President also mentioned that the Federation has organised a workshop on formulating working papers. Dr. Hj Abdul Latif has pointed out the importance of knowing how to prepare the best working paper for local entrepreneurs, which may save them time and cost from having to hire a consultant to carry out the task. The workshop was delivered on April 23 by its Secretary of Economy, Dr. Hj Ismail Opak at PPPMB headquarters in Beribi Light Industrial Complex.

So far, the Federation has attracted memberships from all walks of life. From fresh local graduates to more senior, experienced business owners, PPPMB has several degree and doctorate holders on its rank who are currently trying their best in answering the titah made by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam whereby His Majesty wishes the locals to play active roles in helping to diversify the country's economy.

Earlier during the ceremony, President of PPPMB has announced that the Federation has established a new Research and Development (RnD) Department which was made possible thanks to its core members comprised primarily of university graduates with significant academic qualifications.
