BRUNEI-MUARA

More than 160 Year 4 students from Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) Primary School yesterday gathered at the multipurpose hall to attend the 'Muziumku, Warisanku' programme organised by the Museums Department.

The programme, which was recently launched in March, is targeting primary school students across the nation.

The first session of the morning event yesterday saw a briefing delivered by Awang Haji Mahrin bin Haji Abas, Education Services Officer of the Museums Department, who provided in-depth details on the various galleries and museums available in Brunei as well as other significant information related to the preservation of Brunei's national heritage prior to a question-andanswer session with the participating students.

The second session later saw the students taking part in the numerous Bruneian traditional games such as Pasang, Congkak, Simban, Salok-Salokan, Buah Lapas, Bilun, Kuit, Kaki Tiga and others, managed by the staff members of the Museums Department with the aim of exposing the young children to the traditional games hence raising awareness among them of the importance of preserving the nation's heritage.

The students also had the opportunity to purchase books and materials that have been published by the Museum Department.

Also participating in the programme yesterday was the granddaughter of His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Pengiran Qaiyimah Nurul Bolkiah binti Pengiran Haji Mohammad Hakimmuddin.

Among the objectives of the event is to provide exposure to Brunei's heritage as well as museum buildings in the country to the young students in an effort to instill a sense of love among them towards their nation's cultural heritage.
