BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

One thousand job opportunities will be opened at the construction phase and 200 more at the operations phase under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction EPC contract between Brunei Fertiliser Industries Sendirian Berhad, BFI and ThyssenKrupp Industrial Solutions. The Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance underscored the matter at the EPC Agreement Signing Ceremony held at the Empire Hotel and Country Club, Jerudong. Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim who is also Chairman of the Foreign Direct Investment and Downstream Industry Steering Committee said that the signing of the agreement will affirm BFI's commitments and investments in realising the construction of an ammonia and urea plant with a total investment value of 1.8 billion Brunei Dollars. This, according to Yang Berhormat Pehin, marks another important achievement and milestone for the industry.

Earlier Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Bahrin bin Abdullah, Minister of Development as Chairman of Brunei Fertilizers Industries Sendirian Berhad in his Opening Remarks said the agreement signing has opened channels for the construction of a world class fertiliser plant, which will place Brunei Darussalam on the world map as the new and major fertiliser producer.  This at the same time can contribute to the nation's economic growth and industrial development agenda.

The BFI Ammonia and Urea Plant will be located at a 55 hectare site in the Sungai Liang Industrial Park and is expected to start production commercially by the first quarter of 2021.  A majority of the produced urea is planned for export and some will be used domestically to support Brunei's agriculture sector and further downstream industries.  Also present was Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamenteri Retired Colonel Dato Seri Setia Doctor Awang Haji Mohammad Yasmin bin Haji Umar, Minister of Energy and Industry at the Prime Minister's Office as Deputy Chairman of FDI and Downstream Industry Steering Committee; Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ali bin Apong, Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism; Dato Seri Paduka Dr Awang Haji Mohammad Amin Liew bin Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Finance, envoys of friendly nations, members of the Legislative Council and permanent secretaries.
