Fines totalling more than 7 thousand dollars were imposed on three men by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court today for offences under the Customs Act.

 

35-year old permanent resident Goh Ching Kiat was fined 3 thousand 600 dollars or 6 months imprisonment in default for possessing 12 cartons of cigarettes of various brands in a house at Kampung Kilanas, Mulaut. The accused pleaded guilty and was ordered to pay 200 dollars a month until the fine is settled, and all contraband was seized to be destroyed.

 

Meanwhile 52-year-old Malaysian national, Patrick Thian, pleaded guilty for possessing 3 cartons of cigarettes of various brands and 12 cans of alcoholic drinks at the Kuala Lurah Control Post. The defendant settled the 2 thousand 640 dollars fine.

 

A 52-year-old local, Mohammad Yusri Bin Hj Sahak, was found guilty of possessing 48 cans of alcoholic drinks at the Kuala Lurah Control Post. The accused was fined one thousand dollars or 2 months imprisonment in default. The defendant was given a period of 2 months to settle the fine, and all the contraband was seized to be destroyed.
