The governments of the two countries are working together to address border issues in peaceful mean thus bringing everything back to normalcy, Mr Phengsavanh Keopaseuth, Head of National Border Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told a press conference Thursday. 

Prime Minister of Cambodia Samdech Hun Sen accompanied by his senior officials visited Vientiane on Aug 12 to discuss with his Lao counterpart Mr Thongloun Sisoulith possible solutions to problems related to the disputed border located between Attapeu in Laos and Stung Treng in Cambodia.

The talks between the two prime ministers resulted in an agreement to withdraw military forces of the two countries from the disputed border area.

Both Prime Ministers agreed that border committees of the two countries and the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs in particular will continue to have talks to find solutions to issues related to the border where border markers are yet to be planted as soon as possible to build trust and make it (the border) a heirloom for the children of next generation of the two countries.

Since 2000, 121 border markers have been planted along 87% of the common borderline of the two countries.

Meanwhile the governments of the two countries have agreed to not allow any activities to be conducted by either side in this area where border markers are yet to be planted and it must be left intact until it is agreed by both sides to determine their common border and have border markers planted.
