Opening Ceremony Of 29th SEA Games

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's son and daughter, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Mateen; and Her Royal Highness Princess 'Azemah Ni'matul Bolkiah joined the Brunei Darussalam contingent in the march past at the Opening Ceremony of the 29th SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The opening ceremony was held last night at the Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
Present to witness the opening ceremony was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council.
Also joining the Brunei Contingent in the march past was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien.
The Brunei Darussalam contingent is taking part in 14 sport events and is led by Pengiran Anak Sofian bin Pengiran Anak Haji Ibrahim, Chef De Mission. The country's best achievement came when it hosted the Games in 1999, with a collection of 4 gold, 12 silver and 32 bronze medals.
The march past of athletes and contingents from participating countries was comprised of 5,000 athletes from 11 countries, starting with the Brunei Darussalam contingent. Brunei Darussalam is represented by 172 people namely 105 athletes and 67 officials, including the Chef de Mission, team managers, coaches and medical staff.
The ceremony then witnessed the hoisting of the Southeast Asian Games Federations Flag. It was followed by a welcoming speech by Yang Amat Mulia Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Jaafar, President of the Olympic Council of Malaysia and a speech by Yang Berhormat Brigadier General Khairy Jamaluddin, Minister of Youth and Sports of Malaysia as the Chairman of the 29th SEA Games Organising Committee.
The ceremony was officiated by His Majesty the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia. The official opening ceremony of the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017 was followed by athletes reciting their pledge.
The 29th SEA Games will be held until 30th of August featuring 38 sports and 404 events, including some which will be making their debut such as ice skating, ice hockey and cricket. The biennial SEA Games is the region's biggest and most important multi-sport event.
