(KPL) Books featuring over-50-year-old art works of Mr Anoulom Souvandoun, a well-known painter who has drawn designs for all national banknotes and the Lao National Symbol, are now available for sale.

A launching ceremony for Mr Anoulom’s book was held in Vientiane Capital on Aug 8 in the presence of the Vice Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Bouangeun Saphouvong.

The book with 272 pages is available for 35,000 kip (slightly over US$4). Interested readers can contact mobile phones: 020 2221 8187 and 021 452 919.

The book is the collection of old and new paintings representing Laos in several dimensions. These include works Mr Anoulom has been well-known for such as the burglar painting he drew shortly after spotting a leaving burglar. The painting resulted in the arrest of the thief and his winning of a short story competition.

He began to learn how to draw when he was a young kid, long enough before he enrolled at the National Institute of Fine Arts in 1963.

“Over the past 50 years, I have painted a number of paintings for the country and drawn designs of national stamps, many paintings for the Party and government,” said Mr Anoulom.

“This book will become a painting textbook and partner for young Lao artists who are interested in history and a good master for Lao painters,” Mr Anoulom wrote in his book.
