Laos and Thailand have established the Laovieng Association to promote the traditions and culture of Laovieng people as well as to strengthen relations and cooperation between the two neighbours.

Laovieng is a name derived from a group of people of Lao origin who settled in Photharam district and Banleuak district in Saraburi Province of Thailand in Krungthonburi era or around 200 years ago.

The Laovieng Association was announced established in a ceremony held on Jul 30 at Nong Khwai So village, Nongsaeng district, Saraburi Province in the attendance of Lao Ambassador to Thailand Mr. Lee Bounkham and Saraburi Provincial Governor Mr. Bundit Thivarak, President of Laovieng Association of Thailand Mr. Vinai Phunthurak and invited guests.

At the ceremony, Ambassador Lee expressed appreciations upon the successful establishment of the Laovieng Association in Thailand as it will help promote Laovieng culture and traditions.

“The Laovieng Association is the symbol of Lao and Thai cooperation, solidarity, and relations. It will strengthen the cooperation and relations between the people of the two countries Laos and Thailand,” said Mr. Bundit.

Following the announcement of the association’s establishment, Mr. Lee also visited the Laovieng Museum which is located in Tambon Ban Choon, Photharam district, about 30 kilometers from the administration centre of Ratchaburi Province. It was established in 1996.
