Nurul Aqilah Championed Star Student Quiz Competition 2016

Nurul Aqilah binti Aminudin from Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College emerged as champion in the Star Student Quiz Competition 2016 finals yesterday, held at the Raya Hall of Radio Televisyen Brunei (RTB).


RTB Director cum guest of honour Haji Muhammad Suffian bin Haji Bungsu awarded the prizes to the students.


Among the other finalists in the competition were Nurul Afiqah binti Mohd Norilham from Saint Andrew's School, Ian Low Yee En from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Rashidah Sa'adatul Bolkiah Secondary School Lumut, and Muizaddin Muhaimin bin Mazleenoor from Chung Hwa Middle School.


The champion received a $500 cash prize, certificate and trophy; while the rest of the finalists each received $350, a certificate and trophy.


The participants went through three rounds. The first two rounds involved objective and subjective questions revolved around school subjects such as Islamic Religious Knowledge; Bahasa Melayu; English Language; Mathematics; Combined Science and Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB). The third round was on General Knowledge and Kenali Negara Kitani subjects in the format of a speed quiz.


This competition was co-organised by RTB and the Department of Co-Curriculum Education for the second time.
In the early stage of the competition, 92 students sat for a written test, but only 60 students were chosen to take part in the competition. They comprised students from eight secondary schools nationwide, including private schools and the Department of Islamic Studies, starting early March this year.


Recording for 12 episodes of the qualifying stage was carried out from April 18-23; two episodes of the semi-finals were carried out on April 25 and the single final episode yesterday


The competition aims to produce a student who is confident, possesses a high level of knowledge in academics, and is confident in front of a crowd.


Also present were senior officer, officers and staff of RTB and the Department of Co-Curriculum Education as well as school students.
