A forty-two-year-old Filipino was sentenced to jail for three months with three strokes of the cane after he pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court yesterday to overstaying in the country.
Restie Puti-an Panal's social visit pass expired on February 24, 2014.
DPP Emily Goh informed Chief Magistrate Muhammed Faisal bin Pehin Dato Kelfi that the defendant was arrested at a house in Kampong Perpindahan Mata-Mata Gadong at 12.15am on April 16, 2016 by a team of raiding Narcotics Control Bureau officers who found the defendant has failed to produce valid travel documents and transferred the case to the immigration.
The Immigration Department investigations revealed that the defendant entered Brunei through the Serasa Ferry Terminal on July 25, 2013 and held a valid social visit pass valid until February 24, 2014 with no further extensions.
