BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

Brunei Darussalam has received commendations from the government of Saudi Arabia because the country's haj pilgrims have never caused any problems while performing the haj in the holy city of Makkah. While delivering the commendation, the Minister of Religious Affairs stated that this should be continued aside from increasing efforts to improve what is needed from the time to time. Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, disclosed the matter at the Closing of the Haj Course and Doa Selamat Ceremony for the country's intending pilgrims for this year's haj season.

Yang Berhormat Pehin said that to date, Brunei Darussalam's pilgrims are among those who continuously receive commendations from relevant parties namely the government of Saudi Arabia. The country's pilgrims are known as among those who are disciplined and do not cause problems for relevant parties in Saudi Arabia. The minister added that the problems mentioned in other words include those from the aspect of security and discipline. This is because of the Bruneians determination to truly perform the Haj and not to sight-see or have fun.

Earlier, intending pilgrims were given a briefing related to the haj course delivered by Awang Haji Abdullah bin Haji Mohamad, the Acting Director of Haj Management. While in the holy land, intending pilgrims are advised to always adhere to regulations stipulated by the government of Saudi Arabia solely for the purpose of maintaining the image of the country's haj pilgrims. During the briefing, the intending pilgrims also raised a number of queries related to Haj. One thousand intending pilgrims will perform the Haj this year. Among those present were, Retired First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Awang Abdul Aziz bin Mohd Tamit, the Deputy Minister of Defence and Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs. A number of intending haj pilgrims shared their preparations before departing for the holy city of Makkah. The preparations include mental and physical aspects as well as refining their knowledge on Haj.
