KUPU SB Launched 'Jawi Script Spelling Method Workshop'

The Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) launched the opening of the 'Jawi Script Spelling Method Workshop' for academic and non-academic staff of KUPU SB at its Ta'alim Hall yesterday.
The guest of honour of the ceremony, Dr. Haji Adanan bin Haji Basar, Acting Ra'es of KUPU SB, in his speech underlined that KUPU SB has implemented Jawi as a compulsory course of the university where students need to answer examination papers in Jawi script.
He also shared that the majority of KUPU SB students have skills in writing and reading Javvi script and hoped that all members of KUPU SB, academic or non-academic, are able to read and write Jaw! script.
Ustaz Azman bin Haji Kassim, Acting Director of Core Knowledge Centre of KUPU SB, in his capacity as the chairman of the ceremony, said the objectives of the workshop are to enhance knowledge and skills in using Jawi script as well as to strengthen the culture of writing and reading Jawi script among the staff members of KUPU SB.
The two-day workshop which ends today is facilitated by two invited experts.
It is hoped that the workshop will make the usage of Jawi script among the members of KUPU SB possible, and also help in the effort of keeping the authenticity of the spelling, meaning and pronunciation of words taken from the Arabic language.
"This workshop is held to uphold the titah of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam during the Third Convocation of KUPU SB to preserve and maintain Jawi script as our identity.
"Two workshops had been previously conducted for the (ordinary) staff of KUPU SB and now, it is further extended for its academic staff," Ustaz Azman said.
