DES Raised Awareness on Special Needs Children on World Autism Day

 April 28th, 2016  |  05:17 AM  |   1297 views

BRUNEI-MUARA

DES School recently held an open day to raise awareness about special needs children. The event took place in conjunction with the World Autism Day.

The programme aimed to raise funds through the sale of baked items, fruit juices, smoothies, crafts made by special needs children as well as 'pet kingdom' and pony ride.

"With the funds raised, we hope to be able to provide learning equipment for the special needs classroom and support our newly-launched nonacademic programme in the primary school section," DES School said in a press release.

The day started with a prayer and welcoming remarks by the school's principal, Awang Bahrein bin Haji Abu Bakar followed by the releasing of blue balloons led by Pengiran Hajah Ernie Suryanie binti Pengiran Haji Othman, DES School's managing director.

The blue balloons symbolised the school community's support to raise awareness about children with special needs.

Parents and students also enjoyed a Zumba session led by two teachers.
