Nasaythong Shuts Down 4 Illegal Furniture Factories

Nasaythong authorities and the Industry and Commerce Department of Nasaythong have on July 6 announced the shutdown of four illegal furniture factories in Nasaythong district, Vientiane Capital.

The illegal furniture factories’ suspension, in accordance with the Prime Minister’s Order No 15, has successfully curbed harmful practices in the forestry sector and timber industry, while restoring the public trust in the Party and government.

The closed illegal furniture factories, mostly run by families, are located in Nongsa village, Patthana village, Boua village and Phonmuang village, Nasaythong district, Vientiane Capital.

The authority of Nasaythong district has so far monitored and inspected for a while and issued an order to suspend their illegal practices, but they ignored the warnings, leading to the detainment of their wood and equipment.

“We have so far found six furniture factories out of 35 running illegal operations, but two of them have already closed,” said Vice District Chief of Nasaythong Phouvieng Pheathep.

“To ensure proper forest management and legal wood businesses, logging, wood processing and purchasing timber, companies need to strictly follow the laws and regulations issued by the government and also combat and resolve logging issues,” he said.
