​His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa'adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday performed the first Jumaat prayer at the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Kampung Mentiri.

Upon arrival, His Majesty was greeted by Yang Berhormat Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Othman, Minister of Religious Affairs, and Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti, and Dato Paduka Haji Awang Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs.

Shortly after arrival, His Majesty proceeded to the mosque lobby where His Majesty signed a plaque, accompanied by three calls of Takbir led by the Minister of Religious Affairs. Also present were His Majesty's sons; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince 'Abdul Wakeel.

The first Fardu Jumaat Azan or call for prayer at the mosque was performed by Awang Mohd Abdul Salam bin Haji Salim, a Grade 4 Imam. Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Doctor Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti delivered the first Khutbah or Sermon at the mosque. The sermon among others touched on the nobility of mosques. The Fardhu Jumaat prayer was led by Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar.

The Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Kampung Mentiri was constructed following the titah of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on the 10th of April 2017 to replace the Kampung Mentiri National Housing Scheme Mosque which was destroyed in a fire on the 5th of April. Construction works for the mosque began on the 2nd of May, with the Foundation Laying Ceremony held on the 5th of May 2017. The Julangan Titah project of the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque was completed on the 19th of June 2017 in 49 days.
