PAPAR, SABAH

Police have detained five men, including a former convict, for alleged involvement in several housebreaking cases around the district and in Kinarut recently.

District police chief DSP George Abd Rakhman said the suspects, aged between 23 and 29, were arrested following a break-in at a workshop at Kampung Langkuas in Kinarut on April 21.

“Three motorcycles and nine sport rim tyres amounting to RM11,000 were stolen from the workshop on the day of the incident that happened around 10.30am.

“Following a police report lodged by the owner and continuous investigation, police arrested one of the suspects, who was a former convict, in Kinarut around 10am on Sunday.

“The suspect was also found riding a stolen motorcycle,” said George at a press conference at the Papar police headquarters yesterday.

The arrest then led police to four other arrests within a couple of hours at Kampung Lepasan, the old Kinarut township and a petrol station in Kinarut.

Police also recovered four motorcycles, two home-made airguns, eight sport rim tyres, 10 handphones and other stolen items from the suspects, said George.

The suspects have been remanded for further investigationunder Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.

In Kinabatangan, police arrested a foreigner at an oil palm estate in Kampung Perpaduan Datu Ugi for possessing methamphetamine.

District police chief Superintendent ASahak Rahmat said the 36-year-old Indonesian man was arrested around 4pm on Monday during a drug raid.

Upon further inspection on the man, police found three small packets of plastic containing 5.99g of methamphetamine.

The suspect also tested positive for drugs in a urine test, and will be investigated under Section 39 A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 15 (1)(a) of the same Act.
