Five secondary school students were among nine youths arrested early yesterday morning by police in connection with the murder of a mechanic at Desa Senadin here.

Deputy district police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit confirmed that the nine suspects were picked up in the same neighbourhood following the discovery of the deceased, identified as 19-year-old Fadrick Lucas, in front of a house around 11.45pm on Wednesday. He also revealed that five of the suspects were Form 4 students of a secondary school here.

“The suspects, aged between 16 and 20, comprise nine males. Initial investigation revealed the incident began around noon yesterday (Wednesday) when two students of a school here were involved in a fight with each other.

“One of the students had received help from his friend (the deceased) and had arranged for a meeting with another group at a recreational area in Senadin the same evening. On their way to meet the group, they were suddenly attacked by several individuals armed with sharp objects,” said Stanley in a press conference here yesterday.

According to Stanley, the police are still tracking several other suspects believed to be involved in the case.

“Examination of the body found a stab wound on the right side of his back, a slash wound on a left finger, and injuries to the left side of his head believed to be due to being struck with a sharp object,” he said, adding that Fadrick worked as a mechanic and hailed from Sungai Lutong, Bakong.

All nine suspects were remanded yesterday for further investigation, with police classifying the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
