Southwest Monsoon to Begin Next Month

 May 30th, 2017  |  07:22 AM  |   696 views

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

The Southwest Monsoon is expected to affect Brunei Darussalam by early June when the general wind pattern over the country will be blowing from the southwest.   According to a media release from the Meteorological Department, the atmospheric conditions tend to be quite stable with slightly lesser rainfall amount as compared to the inter-monsoon period in the past 2 months.  The Southwest Monsoon typically lasts until the end of September.  At the season's peak in August, the country usually experiences hazy conditions due to the generally dry weather conditions across the Southeast Asian region.

Southwest Monsoon also coincides with the season of active development of cyclonic systems such as tropical storms and typhoons over the Northwest Pacific and South China Sea.  When such systems develop the country tends to experience occasional gusty thunderstorms depending on the location of the systems in relation to Brunei.  The Meteorological Department will continue to monitor the weather and climate conditions and will issue weather advisories or warnings as and when necessary. For the latest weather update the public may contact the Duty Meteorological Forecaster at the Forecast Office through the Weather Line 144 or visit www.met.gov.bn or on Facebook and Instagram (bruneiweather) and Brunei WX mobile application.
