BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN

A Bangladeshi, Nauaz Ali, was sentenced to eight months imprisonment after being found guilty by the Bandar Seri Begawan Magistrate's Court for a corruption offence under Section 6 (b) of the Prevention of Corruption Act (Chapter 131) for offering a bribe to a policeman from Panaga Police Headquarters.

Investigations conducted by the Anti-Corruption Bureau revealed that on 15th May 2017, at the vicinity of Jalan Balingkawang, Lumut, Brunei Darussalam, the defendant did corruptly offer bribe in the amount of 20 Brunei Dollars to a Police Personnel, Corporal 3599 Mohd Khairul Anwar bin Abdullah Abet, attached at the Panaga Police Headquarters of the Royal Brunei Police Force. The bribe money was offered by the defendant to the said Corporal so that the Corporal would not take any action against him after it was found that his Brunei National Registration Identity Card has expired since 2014.
