In addition to the existing marriage certificate, a small sized marriage card ‘Kad Nikah’ will be issued to the newlyweds.
The Marriage Card will only be issued to any married couple starting on the 1st of January this year. This was stressed by Awang Haji Hassan bin Haji Metali, Head Registrar of the Syariah Courts in a media conference yesterday.
According to Awang Haji Hassan, the cards issued by the court only contain the information of the husband and one wife only. The application process for the Marriage Card is in line with the marriage application submitted by the couples at the Registration of Marriages, Divorces, Reconcile and Annulment of Muslim Marriages Office where the couple resides. So far, the Office has only issued the cards for marriages starting on the 1st of January this year, and any changes in the future will be informed by the court to the public.
The Registration of Marriages, Divorces, Reconcile and Annulment of Muslim Marriages Office has released an additional document for the existing marriage certificate in the form of a Marriage Card starting on the 15th of May this year. The Marriage Card is issued to meet the requirement under Section 22(1) of the Islamic Family Law Chapter 217, and will cost $20.00 for 2 Marriage Cards. This is also in line with the implementation of E-Syariah launched on the 23rd of January this year.
Touching on a number of information and documents pertaining to the Marriage Card that went viral in social media portraying the picture of a husband and four wives is false and fabricated.
