PUTATAN

A homeowner at Taman Ketiau here was shocked when a five-metre-long python was caught hiding in his ceiling yesterday.

The house owner, who requested anonymity, said that he heard a strange noise and an even stranger stench emanating from one corner of his ceiling.

Upon checking, he saw the coiled up reptile and alerted the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) of the Penampang Fire and Rescue Department at about 9.30pm on Sunday.

Three members from the EMRS arrived shortly, he said.

“They took about 20 minutes to capture the reptile through a small hole in the ceiling. One of the members suffered an injured finger when the snake attacked,” he said.

He noted that during the operation, the snake coiled itself onto the arm of one of the EMRS team members.

The 20-kilogramme snake was eventually captured and placed inside a sack before it was brought to the fire station for further action.

The house owner said that he had no idea how long the snake has been there, although he had seen smaller ones outside his house sometime last year.

He also expressed his gratitude to the members involved in the operation and commended them for their swift capture of the python.

The operation was completed at 10.30pm.
