The Association for Autism organized the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Autism Awareness Day under the theme: "Toward Autonomy and Self-Determination" in Vientiane Capital on April 3.
“World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognised day on April 2 every year, encouraging member states of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about people with autism throughout the world,” said Ms Phokham Duangdara, President of the Association for Autism.
“Since 2011, the Lao PDR has celebrated the World Autism Awareness Day to raise awareness among general public members of autism, and realize their ability as well as their equal rights, thus making the public take better care of children with autism,” said Vice President of Journalist Association, Somsanouk Mixay.
The celebration featured activities including singing, dancing and a fashion show by children with autism.
“On March 31, we organized an exhibition of paintings drawn by children with autism at the Mercure Hotel in Vientiane Capital to raise funds to help children with autism,” said Ms Phokham Duangdara, President of the Association for Autism.
