JPD To Take Actions on Abandoned Vehicles

Bandar Seri Begawan

The Land Transport Department (JPD) reminded the public that it will be launching the nationwide environment clean-up project on abandoned vehicles leading to the "deregistration" of vehicles on April 6 with relevant government agencies.

Owners who abandoned their vehicles in public places are reminded that if their vehicles are not removed before April 6 they will be towed or transferred by the disposal companies to be disposed to a place determined by the companies.

Those who wish to claim the vehicle after it is towed should contact JPD. This can be done at any JPD branches.

It is the responsibility of the owners of abandoned vehicles to bear the towing cost and payments must be paid directly to the companies.

Vehicles that are not claimed within three months after April 6 or the date when they were found abandoned, will be seized and auctioned or disposed of and deregistered from the JPD system.

An action committee or taskforce has been established to take appropriate action and monitor assigned catchment areas.

Through this committee, the action formerly made by different agencies are now adjusted according to the procedures and processes have been established and agreed upon.

This countrywide project is the result of discussions made by concerned agencies to make an action towards complaints by the public regarding the abandoned vehicles that are obstructing the flow of the road, disabling other cars to park in the designated area as well as polluting the environment.
