BRUNEI DARUSSALAM
According to the Water Service Department's study and statistics, water usage in Brunei Darussalam is among the highest in the region. The total amount of water used for domestic purposes is estimated at more than 420 litres per person per day, compared to the amount used in the neighbouring countries of about 200 to 250 litres per person per day. Such a difference shows that water usage in this country is far more than elsewhere in the region.
Currently, it is estimated that over 1 billion people across the globe are not receiving clean water and the number is expected to rise up to 2.8 billion by 2025. This is a cause for great concern if no effort is made to save water. The matter was highlighted in the Friday Sermon this week.
In the sermon, the Imam advised the people to use water sparingly in carrying out their daily activities, and to avoid wastage. Wasteful use of water can put individuals and the nation at a loss. As consumers, we should be considerate, caring and responsible, and should cooperate in preventing water wastage such as by quickly fixing a leaking water pipe.
Apart from that, as responsible consumers, residents can determine the amount of water they are using as shown on the water bill and should settle the monthly payment on time. This is to avoid outstanding claims from accumulating and becoming a burden.
