The State Palace received a borrowed Mercedes S600 Pullman Guard presidential car from former president Susilo bambang Yudhoyono on Wednesday, according to the head of the Presidential Secretariat, Darmansjah Djumala.
“Just this [Wednesday] morning, the borrowed presidential car has been returned,” said Darmansjah. He added that the handing over of the car had also been officially registered.
“We will check [the car] and tune it up to meet the safety standards,” said Darmansjah.
After several tests, the car will be transferred to the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres).
The State Palace now has eight Mercedes Benz S600 Pullman Guard VVIP sedans, including the one returned by Yudhoyono, to be used by the President and the Vice President, along with their spouses.
Democratic Party spokesperson Rachland Nasidik brushed off allegations that Yudhoyono had used the car illegally. He cited Law no.7/1978 stipulating that former presidents and vice presidents are entitled to several facilities from the state, including a car and driver. (mrc)
