Launch of International Forestry Day

 March 22nd, 2017  |  06:49 AM  |   705 views

Bandar Seri Begawan

The International Forestry Day celebration took place yesterday morning at the Berakas Forest Reserve Recreation Park. It was organised by the Forestry Department. The event not only intended to increase public awareness on the importance of forests conservation, but also the benefits that can be gained from the forests as a natural source of energy.

Speaking at the function, Dayang Noralinda binti Haji Ibrahim, the Acting Director of Forestry said today's sophisticated technology provides brighter and bigger opportunities for manufacturing forestry-based products. This will indirectly open opportunities for entrepreneurs to explore and utilise the forestry sector, such as in using wood as a more nature friendly and sustainable alternative energy resource.

The celebration coincided with the presentation of Letters of Appointment of the Forestry Department's Natural Disaster Management Committee to 10 members who will help to facilitate the management of natural disasters in the forests. There were other activities, including the planting of saplings. The celebration also highlighted the role of forests in the energy cycle of the eco-system as well instilling a sense of responsibility in protecting and preserving the country's forestry treasures.
