Budget Allocation for National Development

1 billion dollars has been proposed for the National Development budget for the 2017-2018 financial years. The proposed budget was deliberated in the afternoon session after the council approved the allocation for the Ministry of Communications and its departments yesterday afternoon.
In deliberating the proposed budget for Development, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance explained that the budget distribution is focused on project commitments which have been completed but still have liabilities as well as projects still under implementation. Meanwhile, priority will only be given to projects that are still in the tendering as well as the design and planning stages, which uphold the country's budget focus.
According to Yang Berhormat Pehin, the overall budget distribution according to several main sectors are as follows. The Transport and Communications sector is provided the largest allocation with 37.6 percent; the Miscellaneous Sector, which is to finance completed projects that still have liabilities, is allocated 24.8 percent; Industrial and Trade Sector receives a 19 percent allocation; Social Services Sector - 98 million 58 thousand dollars or 9.8 percent; Public Utilities Sector - 6.4 percent; Science and Information Technology, Research and Development and Innovation - 1.1 percent; Security Sector is allocated 10 million 4 hundred dollars or 1 percent while the Public Buildings Sector is provided with 0.3 percent.
