UTB Lecturer Attended a Seminar on Climate Change in Seattle

 April 21st, 2016  |  05:15 AM  |   1379 views

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON

Dr. Lim Tiong Hoo, a senior lecturer at Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB) recently attended the Scholar Fulbright Enrichment Seminar on Climate Change in USA. The seminar entitled 'Seattle: Where International Efforts to Combat Climate Change Converge' was held in Seattle, Washington from April 14-17.

Over 75 Fulbright scholars from 42 countries looked into the impacts of climate change globally at the seminar that highlighted the role of the communities, researchers, and politicians in addressing climate change and environment issues.

Some of the issues discussed include the impact of climate change globally, the effect of industrialisation, the world carbon emission and the future of clean energy.

A senior Advisor in Washington State Governor Office said the world's highest carbon emission country is China followed by the United States. The biggest culprit comes from electricity generation from fossil fuel followed by transportation. As a result, there is a need to move towards clean energy sources.

Dr Lim, who is the 2016 US-Asean Visiting Fulbright Scholar highlighted, "Our roles as a scholar should not end 'here'. We need to work together through multidisciplinary science. It is important for all communities around the world to Collaborate, Communicate, Cooperate and Contribute (4C's) to combat Climate Change and we need to act now for the future."

The seminar participants also helped to restore the Juanda Beach Park by removing the weeds and putting wood chip mulch to promote plant growth.
