404 Pints of Blood Donated

 February 27th, 2017  |  07:48 AM  |   949 views

Bandar Seri Begawan

404 pints of blood were donated during the recent blood donation drive 'Triple Heart', organised by multiple companies consisting of Petar Perunding Sdn Bhd, HEROES, SCR Xpress and It's a Grind Coffee House in collaboration with the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital's Blood Donation Centre.

The blood drive was held in conjunction with the country's 33rd National day. The campaign aimed to achieve the target of receiving 333 donors.

The drive received an overwhelming support from Bruneians with 525 individuals registering to donate blood. However, due to certain health limitations, only 404 managed to donate their blood. A total of 200 donors were able to donate on the first day while 204 were recorded to have donated blood on the second day.

Bidyut Kumar Majumdar, the coordinator for the blood drive hoped that more blood drive campaigns can be carried out in the near future. He added that blood donation, though being a noble deed to others, is also beneficial to the donors as it helps to shed 650 calories for every donation.

Donating blood also reduces the risk of heart disease and cancer by regulating the oxidation process and level of iron in the body.
