Five local Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) will be joining the 8th Penang International Halal Expo and Conference (PIHEC) 2017 taking place at the Spice Arena, in Penang, Malaysia from the 24th to 26th February 2017.

The PIHEC is an annual event hosted and organised by the Penang State Government as a platform for exhibitors from Southeast Asia, West Asia and other regions to promote and market a variety of Halal consumables, Halal-certified premises and Halal non-food products, as well as Islamic products, financial services, institutions and associations.

The five MSMEs – Syarikat WiraBina, Wing-It! Foods, Al-Huffaz Management, Bellary Nature and ShineBlingz Enterprise – will be departing for Penang on the 23rd February 2017. The 5 MSMEs will exhibit local Brunei products ranging from halal services to halal food products. The PIHEC is a platform that provides access to the region’s Halal market for local companies.

Syarikat WiraBina is a local family business and producer of virgin coconut oil (VCO) products. Their products include massage oils, balms and rubs, soaps, shampoo, deodorant and lip balms.  WiraBina have expressed that the company aspires to gain international exposure and market validation, in order to boost consumer confidence and acceptance of their product, and to gain international experience for future product improvements.

Also joining the expo is Wing-It! Foods, a Bruneian-owned fast food restaurant widely known for their range of chicken wings and sauces, who aspire to expand their market by marketing their signature sauces outside of Brunei. It is hoped that PIHEC 2017will be an avenue to promote their new line of bottled sauces, to be marketed and distributed outside of Brunei Darussalam.

Bellary Nature handcrafts and gathers a unique collection of natural, safe and ethical skin care, body care products as well as holistic remedies free of parabens, petrolatum, phthalates, artificial fragrance and harmful ingredients. The SME shared that expos such as PIHEC 2017 is a platform where they would be able to evaluate and gauge the reception to their product in an overseas market.

Local manufacturer of home and car air freshener products, ShineBlingz Enterprise, hopes that participating in the expo will provide an opportunity to surveythe international market and to gauge pricing and existing competitors. ShineBlingz Enterprise manufactures three different types of home and car air freshener products, with over 10 different scents.

Standing out from the other providers of Halal consumables and products, is Al-Huffaz Management, Brunei Darussalam’s own unique provider of an app-based and online platform that connects al-Quran reading teachers with students. They hope that participating in PIHEC 2017 will provide exposure for their service and the opportunity to learn from other online-based religious teaching providers. Al-Huffaz plan on venturing into new markets, and so far, their market has reached as far as Germany.
