PAS to Dr Mahathir: Stop Pressuring Us

 February 12th, 2017  |  11:51 AM  |   1794 views

BUKIT GANTANG

PAS has asked former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad (pix) not to pressure the Islamist party to make a decision on whether to join the opposition Pakatan Harapan pact.

PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad said it was improper for the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman to give PAS an ultimatum to decide on the matter in one month.

PAS and Pribumi had initiated talks on Feb 1 over the matter ahead of the next general election, which is due by June 2018, but speculated to be held earlier.

Idris said the issue of PAS joining Pakatan was a major decision which could only be made after much discussion.

He said this to reporters after a Perak-level roadshow talk to explain the PAS-proposed amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, at the Bukit Chempedak PAS centre near here Saturday night.

Idris also said that PAS was unhappy with the verbal assaults against the party by other opposition parties.
