Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III will be consulting the stakeholders first before he will issue a moratorium on the suspension of the deployment of Filipino household service workers (HSWs) to Kuwait.
He is looking to come up with a decision soon.
“If a decision has to be made, it will be very soon. But after consultation with all the stakeholders. I am seriously considering declaring a moratorium on their deployment. And I have to consult all the stakeholders on our deployment of our OFWs in Kuwait,” Bello said.
Asked if there was an instruction from President Rodrigo Duterte on the Kuwait moratorium, the DOLE chief said, “Wala naman.”
Bello admitted that there were people from the private sector and recruitment agencies that approached him regarding his plan.
Bello also revealed that the plan was discussed during his meeting with Kuwait ambassador, Musaed Saleh Ahmal Althwaikh last week.
“He was asking me, probably they heard about our intention to declare a moratorium. And we talked about it. But right now I am not at liberty to tell you what we really talked about. It is enough that we had a very congenial and very frank conversation,” he added.
The Labor and Employment head is looking to temporary suspend the deployment of Filipino (HSWs) in Kuwait due to the abuses on female OFWs.
