An elderly woman driver suffered serious injuries after the van she was in crashed head-on with a car near a tamu (market) in Krokop 10 yesterday evening at about 4.50pm.

It was learnt that the van was approaching Krokop 10’s traffic light when the collision happened.

The female driver of the car was slightly injured.

One fire engine with seven firemen was mobilised to the scene upon receiving a distress call from the public and had to extricate the woman driver from the van wreckage as she was pinned down in her seat.

It took them half an hour to extricate her before she was sent to hospital with her right leg crushed in the impact.

An investigation is underway to determine the actual cause of the incident.
